Lanzarote is not just a great place to enjoy the sun in winter or summer. It is a UNESCO biosphere reserve and there are many amazing places to visit and enjoy.  Several are as a result of the campaigning, imagination foresight and dedication of the artist Cesar Manrique without whom the Lanzarote would be unrecognisable from the beautiful island we enjoy today.

Timanfaya National Park

Timanfaya National Park – Parque Nacional de Timanfaya – no visit to Lanzarote would be complete without seeing this wonderful awe inspiring landscape.

It is the result of volcanic eruptions that took place between 1720 – 1736 and again in 1824

Inside the the National Park are located Montanas del Fuego – Fire Mountains which can only view visited by coach tour paid on entry to the National Park

Entrance is 12 euros per adult 6 euros for children (7-12)

Opening times: 9.30 – 16.00 Last tour 16.00

Cueva de los Verdes

Cueva de los Verdes – the Green Caves is part of the Tunel de Atlantida (Tunnel of Atlantis) formed by La Corona Volcano whose crater is located several kilometres under the sea.

Entrance to the caves is across the road from Jameos del Agua and by guided tour only.

Tickets: Adults 10 euros Children 5 euros (7-12) 

Opening Times: 10.00 – 16.00

Concerts are held in the caves

Jameos del Agua

Jameos del Agua is a landscape transformed by Cesar Manrique and was the first Art, Cultural and Tourism Centre (CACT) created by him.

Tickets costs 10 euros for adults and 5 euros for children (7-12)

Opening Times: 10.00 – 17.00

Jardin de Cactus

Jardin de cactus is another fascinating creation of Cesar Manrique and his last on the island.  Created on the site of an old quarry located near the village of Guizita either on the way to or from Jameos del Agua or Cueva de los Verdes

It is well worth a visit any time of year and the view from the terrace cafe overlooking the garden is truly splendid.

Tickets cost 6.50 euros for adults and 3.25 euros for children (7-12)

Opening times: 10.00 – 17.00

Mirador del Rio

Mirador del Rio is located at the very north of the island with spectacular views of the island of La Graciosa and another example of the Cesar Manrique created in inside the cliff top.

Tickets cost 10 euros for adults and 5 euros for children (7-12)
